This individual will work as part of a team to manage, aggregate, curate, edit, proofread and post a variety of written content and imagery to a high-profile website. Prospective candidates should be self-driven, thrive in a fast-paced environment where accuracy is imperative, be able to handle deadline pressures with equanimity and be dedicated to producing high-quality work. A “can do” attitude and flexibility are essential, with the ability to work independently yet collaboratively in our close-knit team. This role is a full-time, salaried position. Team coverage hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., in assigned regular shifts. Additional on-call responsibilities outside of regular hours include one week night, plus scheduled rotational weekend and holiday on-call watches. The assigned workplace is Fort Meade, Md., with telework options. This position reports to the Web Content Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Five or more years’ professional experience with a degree in any of the following fields: journalism, writing, producing, editing or communications;
  • Excellent editing, copyediting and proofreading skills with demonstrated expertise in using the AP Style Guide;
  • Experience posting web content using a content management system (includes systems based on Dot-Net-Nuke, WordPress, Wix, Adobe Experience Manager, etc.) and a basic understanding of HTML;
  • An eye for selecting imagery to complement content and the ability to crop photos and make minor edits such as adjusting brightness/contrast, using Photoshop.
  • Hold a public trust clearance or CAC, or be able to pass a security background screening.
